This is post is way late.

I had heard the sad news about Khoo Soo Seng while in Nairobi for for a meeting.

He died while on a dive trip to Seven Skies. Soo Seng has been an icon in the Singapore diving industry for many decades, and I first met him when he was (then) President of the Singapore Underwater Federation (SUF). At the time, SUF was one of the partners in the Reef Survey and Conservation Project (RSCP), together with the Republic of Singapore Yacht Club and the Singapore Institute of Biology. Over 200 volunteer divers were mobilised to survey over 100 sites in the islands south of Singapore.

An old group photo of some of the RSCP volunteers, taken sometime between 1989 and 1990. Soo Seng is the back row, 5th from the right in a white t-shirt.

He was always enthusiastic about diving, gear and the marine environment. He will be missed.

RIP Soo Seng.
